What the extension does with your audio
Sugar EQ for Tabs equalises the audio playing in one browser tab, when you choose to turn it on for that tab. It reads that tab's audio using Chrome's own tab-capture capability, applies the equaliser using the Web Audio API, and plays the result back through your speakers or headphones.
That audio is processed in memory, in real time, inside your browser only. It is never recorded, never written to disk, and never transmitted anywhere — the extension makes no network requests of any kind. Nothing is retained once it has played; there is no buffer of past audio and no history of what you listened to.
The tab-capture permission
Unlike the native Mac app, this extension does not use any macOS system permission. Capturing a tab's audio happens entirely inside Chrome, through the tabCapture extension API, and only runs when you click the extension's own on/off control on a tab you're actively looking at. There is no background listening, no capture of any tab you haven't explicitly turned it on for, and only one tab can be captured at a time.
What the extension stores
One thing: which equaliser preset you last chose, saved locally in your browser's own extension storage so it can be restored the next time you use it. That choice is never synced anywhere, never leaves your device, and is the entire contents of what this extension saves.
What the extension does not do
- No analytics or usage tracking of any kind
- No telemetry or crash reporting
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers
- No third-party SDKs or frameworks
- No accounts, sign-in, or personal information
- No network connections whatsoever — the extension never contacts a server, including mine

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date below. Since the extension collects nothing, any change would be a clarification rather than a change in what happens to your data.
