The short version: Sugar processes audio on your Mac, in memory, and that's the end of it. No recording, no files, no network, no analytics, no accounts. This page covers the Mac app — for the Chrome extension, see its separate privacy policy.
What Sugar does with your audio
Sugar EQ equalises the audio your Mac is playing. To do that it reads that audio as it is played, applies the equaliser, and plays the result to your speakers or headphones.
That audio is processed in memory, in real time, on your Mac only. It is never recorded, never written to disk, and never transmitted anywhere. Nothing is retained once it has been played — there is no buffer of past audio, and no history of what you listened to.
The system audio recording permission
macOS requires apps to ask permission before they can read system audio, and Sugar asks for it on first launch. This is what allows Sugar to read the audio it equalises. Nothing captured through that permission leaves your Mac, and Sugar has no ability to send it anywhere even if it wanted to.
You can review or revoke this at any time under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording. Sugar cannot equalise audio without it.
What Sugar stores
One thing: which equaliser mode you last chose, saved locally on your Mac so it can be restored the next time you open the app. That's the entire contents of Sugar's saved state.
What Sugar does not do
- No analytics or usage tracking of any kind
- No telemetry or crash reporting
- No advertising, and no advertising identifiers
- No third-party SDKs or frameworks
- No accounts, sign-in, or personal information
- No network connections whatsoever — Sugar never contacts a server, including mine
Children
Sugar collects no information from anyone, of any age.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date below. Since Sugar collects nothing, any change would be a clarification rather than a change in what happens to your data.
