Getting started

How do I start listening?: Tap the power icon on the start screen and grant microphone access when prompted. The waterfall starts scrolling immediately.
Why did the app switch to a "paused" screen?: Inspectro pauses automatically if a phone call, Siri, or another app interrupts the microphone. Tap "Resume Listening" to pick back up — it won't restart on its own, so you're always in control of when the mic turns back on.
How do I change the color palette or turn off effects?: Tap the palette swatch or the "FX" button in the top-right corner while the spectrogram is running. Your choices are remembered the next time you open the app.
Can I freeze the display to look at something more closely?: Yes — tap anywhere on the spectrogram to freeze it, and tap again to resume.

What can I say to Inspectro?: Try "Change theme to blue in Inspectro," "Turn on beat bloom in Inspectro," "Set noise gate to low in Inspectro," or "Pause/Resume/Start/Stop listening in Inspectro." Siri phrases work once Inspectro has been opened at least once.
Does using Siri send any audio data anywhere?: No — Siri commands only control app settings (palette, effects, start/stop). Inspectro's own audio analysis stays entirely on-device regardless of how you trigger it.

How do I use Inspectro inside GarageBand or another app?: Open your host app (GarageBand, Logic Pro, AUM, Cubasis, etc.), select a track, open its Plug-ins/Mixer view, tap an empty audio effect slot, and look under Audio Unit Extensions for "Tom Hodgins: Inspectro." It inserts as a true pass-through — your audio is only visualized, never changed.
Will changing the palette in the plugin affect the main app?: Yes, by design — palette, effects, and noise gate settings are shared between the app and the plugin, so they always match.
The plugin isn't showing up in my host app.: Make sure Inspectro itself has been installed and opened at least once, and check your host's plugin browser for a "More" or "All" filter — some hosts group third-party Audio Unit Extensions separately from their own built-in effects.

Does Inspectro collect any data?: No. There's no account, no analytics, and no network access at all — every bit of audio analysis happens on your device. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Does Inspectro record or save audio?: No. Audio is analyzed live and discarded immediately — nothing is ever written to disk or transmitted anywhere.
